I have some snowshoe hares and squirrels that the grandkids want tanned. What is the consensus about using Trappers Hide Tanning Formula (the orange bottle that is sold lots of places). tks,
Gary

I’ve used it a few times, works great on the thin skinned animals like you mention add. Just make sure to follow the directions exactly and work the hide a lot as it’s drying. I’ve tanned a few fox with it that I think turned out great. Good luck

Used it quite a bit. Works well on small stuff. Haven't tried it on deer.
And yes, follow directions on bottle

Thanks guys, I've tanned deer hides and fox many years ago and know the work involved, but I'm going to try this.

Used it on muskrats, Fox, coyote, deer and beaver. It works. Like most I was always looking for the magic tanning solution to make nice soft pliant goods. There ain’t one. It’s all in your elbow no matter what you use.

I have a few i did probably 7-8 years ago, seem very well preserved. As mentioned not the most soft but mine are just hangers, and i care what they look like on the outside not the inside. Going to do a few more soon.

I have tanned quite a few Muskrats, several mink, and getting ready to do a fox and try a couple coon,,, with the "Orange Bottle" formula.

There is a complete series on YouTube from Coon Creek Outdoors guy that was on here a week or so ago … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLrBomwO9S0

He gives pretty good instructions.
