6 months or so after we had to put Hank, our blue heeler down (correction ..my daughters blue heeler who she left at our house while she galavanted around the country while she was single)I thought it was time to get another dog. So... I noticed a pen of nice looking pups at the Burlington pigeon show ( a swap meet) last march and called my wife to come down and look at them. She picked out the big male. An Australian Shepard. Brought the cute puppy home and did all the necessary vet things and settled down to train a pup. Well it seems that that pup had different ideas. LOL. We are still working on him and realize he is still a pup but he is a handful. Our dogs roam the yard free will and he does pretty well staying in the yard but this place looks like a tornado passed thru. Chunks of chewed up wood chewed up paper several toys we got him pieces of metal he dug up somewhere. I took a roll of electrical tape from him today. I don't know where he got that. Our living room is pretty big and when he comes in he has some toys to keep him busy. He will romp around and toss them up and chase them around. Well we gave him a "greeny" That's a chew bone thing that's suppose to be like brushing their teeth. After chewing the first one up yesterday we gave him another tonight. He proceeded to play with it tossing it up and chasing it around. He could throw that thing pretty high. High enough to land in my glass which was sitting on a table next to my chair. The glass didn't fair well. I guess we will have to let him chew on the greenys outside. What a handful. I'll be glad when this puppy stage is over. just

I wish you well with any herding breed of dog they need constant work or they will do as they wish is one of the things I've noticed.
A dog agility course and doing that with the pup may help a great deal to help use the extra energy they possess.
They also will herd any and all kid's cats or anything else and may start nipping at heels . The good side is they generally as a very smart dog and are or can be quick learners.
I'd suggest checking into the Monks of New Skeet dog training videos they raise German shepherd dogs which are in high demand those videos are money well spent. Allan
