I have a question and I thought someone might know the answer. I have two MB 1216 (the 12x16 conibear). The problem I run into is they closes very slow, if at all and sometime the trigger is hit, the dog is off and the trap remains set. I've tried using the last notch on the dog (only 2 setting) and it unsets, but its slow and hesitates before finally closing. Have any of you run into this before. Is there a fix? Or just don't use the traps?

Weak springs? Yeah if you have no confidence in the trap by all means sideline those traps. Not sure what you're trapping but a new duke heavy 330 is about as deadly a big conibear as you can get and also about the cheapest money wise.

Try loosening the nut on the bolt at the jaw hinges 1/4 turn. I sure love mine and I have a pile of them.

I have nothing clever to put here.

What 160 says is probably better than what I do. I just give them a shot of WD-40, frees them right up.

Thanks everyone. Catcollector- I agree and have duke 330's and love them along with every other size. I purchased two of the MB's to fit a small stream in the swamp I trap. Anyway, springs are still strong and I had already tried loosening the nut and bolt holding the jaws. It seem like the problem is in the bend of the fame when its set. The spring has trouble pushing the jaws flat when unset. But it doesn't seem to be an issue with anyone else so may it may be something in the batch or just the two I have. who knows. I think I'll try to take some of the bend out of the frame.

I used one one for a few days and after it was sprung and empty three days in a row I replace it with a Belisle. I set the trap and fired it with a stick. It closed real slow until about half way shut then closed fast. I figured it was the shape of the jaw and the springs fighting to get past the bend. I threw it in the PU and never set it again. I was doing a removal job and can't say it helped get things cleaned up. That was about 6 years ago and have never set one again. It wasn't mine or I would have sold it.
I also felt it was a design flaw in the shape of the jaw. It seems to me once I watched it in slow motion since that was how it was closing, it was easy to see. Maybe MTP changed the shape of them and some are useable?

Never handled one but MTP conis are known for their tiny spring eyes that cause problems as you fully compress the jaws. Kind of a hitch in the get along at full set.
