I built a Scandinavian work bench very much like that one 38 years ago during the time I was in college. I put an "L"-shaped end vice, bench and vise dogs, and a tray the length of the bench at the back on mine. I used sugar maple for the top and hickory for the legs and stretchers.
The top is pretty heavy but it only rests on the frame and is held in position with wooden locator pins, That way it can be moved more easily and the frame can be disassembled.

My looks a lot more used than the one in your post. And I'm glad I made it when I was young. It has seen a lot of use in all those years.

Mighty fine.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

For some reason this reminds me of the hickory pier I built for my friend Dick.

I called it Dick's Hickory Dock.

Nice workmanship.

I doubt it needs any additional bracing unless you are going to cover it with a tall stack of gold ingots.

I've had a workbench for 20 years that I made similarly but out of pine and fir with a layered plywood top. It was perfectly stable for lots of chisel and plane work and I even brought it here to France, but the bench in that video is a tank.

I agree a couple bench vises would be cool if you are into woodworking.

Good luck on the project.

Pete

My other Workbench that me and my Father built over 20 years ago, is made of 3 inch Curly Cherry for the top. Curly White Oak for the front back and sides surrounding the top. 12/4 White Oak for the legs and a thick Ash beam between the legs for additional support.
