Interesting, I was wondering why the American plane had stripes and writing on the sides. Makes it easy to see.

White is correct that they filmed a modern plane. The black and white stripes were applied to all allied aircraft, after June 6 for quick ground recognition.
So called"invasion stripes". This incident was first written about by Cornelius Ryan in his epic"The Last Battle". He interviewed the participants.

The fellow that put out this video, Mark Felton, has dozens, perhaps many more, similarly interesting military history videos posted on you tube. I've been limiting myself to a few per week because they are so good, I'll miss them after I've watched them all. Check them out if you liked this one. This incident makes me wish I'd been issued a 1911 rather than SW.38 and later Beretta M9 as an aircrew sidearm! 1

I believe that would have been insignia for D-Day and the landings. Although by that period in the war, I would assume that they would no longer be there. (yes, I know it's a different plane) By that time of the war, we pretty much had air supremacy and they were not needed. They were used on D-day to help identify allied aircraft and lesson friendly fire accidents.
