Scandinavians, and lesser extent Czech, English, and Irish, most who had only arrived in the US and Canada in the second half of the 19th century, they weren't big on Romantic language (Spanish, French, etc) bastardized inflections of a Meso-American native word. They probably shortened it down because they were annoyed with the little song dogs and really didn't want to pay much attention to them unless they could put a bullet through them. Less time outside in the cold winters talking about an annoying critter, the better. Just some thoughts... I always thought it was the city slickers that called them ki yote tees. When the Arizonans named their hockey team it just threw fuel on the fire. I guess it sounds cool to city folk.

yotetrapper30 trapper Joined: May 2011 Posts: 16,608 Oakland, MS	It was ki-yo-TEE all my life in NY state. Moved to IL and it was ki-yote. Moved to MS and now it's ki-yo-TEE again. At this point, I use both interchangeably. Oddly, I tend to use ki-yote if it's one, and ki-yo-TEES if it's more than one... I don't know why so don't ask, lol.
