Anybody ever go there in the winter? Which resort is the best one to go out of?
IMO, perch are the best fresh water fish for eating there is.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

They do. I've seen photos of some close to 2 pounds.

Somebody else recommended them. What's the best time of the year for perch usually?

They do have some real Jumbo's, I fish there sometimes and my friend guides for Bry's guide service and posts a lot of pics of big perch. Finding them isn't always easy unless you have tips on location or hire a guide for a day or two.

Winter time...lol I've never been able to catch them with consistency during the summer, only picking up a couple here and there. Woodlands Perch Patrol does a lot of leg work to find the schools during the winter.

I haven't had a chance to fish Devils this winter as of yet, not sure of the snow conditions on the lake.

My friends fished it a great deal in the winter. They had their own sonar and put in the work auguring the holes. That was in a period when the resorts said the fish were not biting. They found the fish and hauled in their limits daily. Resorts are the way to go, until you get a feel for the lake and location, but it is expensive. It keeps you from breaking through the ice or getting caught in a storm, as Devil's Lake is big compared to most American waters.
Do not grill the guides, but act interested and ask them the questions you are asking here. If you have GPS on your phone, mark the locations where you are fishing.

One more thing, do not overlook the walleyes up there. They are something most do not focus on, and are a great bonus.

True on the walleyes! Northern pike will keep you busy on the back bays if the main lake area is sketchy or if the wind is howling. A guy can catch a limit of dandy northerns 50' from the road/truck in the right spot! Will be heading out there in March to ice fish. Huge body of water so hiring a guide initially is well worth the $$$.

Heading up there February 2-5. Going with a guide to chase perch and eyes. Some great guides up there like Jason Feldner and Ancil’s guide service.
