Former Professor Dies At Age 72
Yup, it is true. If you are reading this, I am dead. I am not up in the clouds looking down at you playing a golden harp. I am not meeting with friends who died before me.
I've not gone home to anyone's arms. I am dead. I am also not burning in a lake of fire or being tortured for the rest of eternity. I am just dead. And someday, you'll be dead too. It's just the nature of life.
I was born on April 6, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pa. I died on January 12, 2020. I was 72 years old.
I was fortunate to wear many hats while I was alive. A partial list includes Boy Scout (Eagle Scout), soldier (Vietnam), professor (University of Missouri, Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences), scientist (thirty-five-plus peer-reviewed publications), vineyard owner and winemaker, lifelong dog owner (too numerous to list), self-taught gourmet in the kitchen. (A note here, anybody that can do biochemistry can cook. One only needs apply one's self).
As you can imagine, there will be no fancy funeral or anything close to that. So there is nowhere to send flowers. However, should you feel the need to do something in my name, I do have a few favorite charities/nonprofits that I have supported over the years. They include: The ASPCA, Planned Parenthood, The Southern Poverty Law Center, and The American Civil Liberties Union.

He picked the wrong charities. Other than that it could well be my obituary.
Let's go Brandon
"Shall not comply" with morons who don't understand "shall not infringe."

We all place faith in something. Atheism is a belief. The professor had faith he was correct as a learner of "stuff" during his brief time on earth.
I'll choose to place my faith in the Triune God who created from nothing and placed man and woman, in His image, in that Creation. Then inspired a best-seller about Himself, to help us understand it all clearly.
This professor either didn't read the book, Read it and considered it false, Or as many more do today than did two hundred years ago, Considered himself "Enlightened" as a resident of this post-modern world - above any God - as he, the professor was the purveyor of "truth." and so didn't have time or didn't notice, or chose not to place humble faith in any of God's intended revelations = Creation, Christ, Bible.
If the best-selling book of all time is correct, and I believe it is, then the professor will find his summary of all this had eternal consequences that won't end well for him as he will die yet again.

He could also have been an agnostic. I didn't see any disbelief in his writing that showed a preference either way. I would say being stuck in neutral is better than reverse.
This obit is ripe with disbelief. He specifies what is not going to happen = belief in that outcome. If he's right, we're wrong. If he's wrong, his belief will earn him a spot on the evil team and it doesn't end well for that team. Agnostics fool themselves if they think they hold no opinion. There is no such thing. How did we get here? What is my purpose? How does all this work? Big picture stuff above all of our pay-grades. We all decide what we believe on those topics. There either "is" or "isn't" and everyone gets to decide, unless to young to be able or mentally incapable. It's been that way since the first chapter of the book that is the best-seller all of time.

So in the first hour of the day I am reminded of my Father's words and advice.....
"try to stay out of conversations about religion and politics" ...especially at work... "unless you're looking to get into fights, then by all means have at it"
I think I'm going to go work on my weasel boxes and cable restraints.
It's a grand creation indeed, the actual evidence, of which we can only see a very small portion, shows great destruction and great creation in a cyclical manner, simultaneously, the scale of which is so far beyond human comprehension that argument is laughable at best. See my old man's advice above, he demonstrated some excellence in wisdom and I'm certain he shared many of your religious view points. I loved him and told him so before he died.
Which of course is nothing more than my own opinion. Personally I DON'T judge others that don't share it. Sadly many do.
Hopefully yinz are studying the ancient tongues that these books were originally "scribed" in.
Alas the snow begins.....now I'll be able to see better what the fox's and coyote's are up to.
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT
