I was surprised that the second one from the left was not downgraded. They all sold well at the first NAFA sale in 2013.

Guy J.- You'll have to post a pix of one of your cages set up for a fisher, if you can. That would be interesting.

My parents used to have friends that owned "the last farm in Milford" or at least one of the last. The son, who would now be the owner if he's still alive, had friends that were trappers but this was back in the late 70s when I had the conversation with them. The one guy was mostly a small stream muskrat and mink trapper if I recall. The "last farm" was about 20 acres with most of it pasture, the home site where their house built in 1709 stood, their 2 chicken barns (they ran a mom & pop egg business even though the dad worked full-time in a factory), and some cropland in the back. They did own a larger parcel that I think was all woods in a neighboring town--maybe some of that survives as fisher habitat!! I lost track of the family after my parents and the old couple out there all passed away. I haven't been there in almost 20 years and its probably changed a lot. Or maybe not. I should try to reconnect if anyone is still around...

That was a good year to have any kind of fur at the auction.
If I remember right I had about 2 dozen rats sell for a 12 dollar avg.

PC there was a very prominent trapper and fur buyer in Bellingham for 60 years his name was Bill Spear, he recently passed away around 3 years ago but In his heyday Bill trappedthe daylights out of that Bellingham, Milford area, he is probably who you are thinking of!

I don't think the guy I talked to back then bought fur but I bet he sold to this Bill Spear.

Neat to hear that there are fisher in that part of Mass. My maternal g-pa (who I never met) probably wouldn't have had a clue what the animal was, let alone that there might have been some in the area, although in the 1920s-1940s probably not too many. My mom lived in Hopedale, where my grandfather was an accountant in the big Draper factory. He lived 3 blocks from the factory and walked there there every work day, he never owned a car in his life. A much different life than his grandsons have lived...

There has always been a very small indigenous population of Fisher here. Back in the 70's it was only along the NH and VT border and around the Qusbbin Reservoir but when we lost our footholds and conibears in 93 they quickly ranged all.thecway thru the South Shore and out onto the Cape itself. I have hadn't people tell me that there have been road kills on the Sagamore Bridge going over the Canal and also at the rotary at the base of the Canal.by the State Police Barracks, they also have become firmly embedded on the Otis AirForce Base property.
