I bought some bait and lure last year. I left it outside under a carport and it's been there for about a year in a sealed container. Is this still good? I'm in NY so it went through a hot summer and probably froze a few times also.

Well made bait can last for many >>>>> years even when not stored in the best conditions. Some not handled properly can continue to breakdown. I wouldnt throw it out. Most any stink in winter has value to hungry curious animals.

I finished off a container of Cavens Predator bait this year that was fiver years old. Still caught animals and was not in poor condition or rotten at all.

When i make bait I purposely let it sit at least a year. I do five gallons at a time and it lasts me several seasons past that. That said it depends on the bait. Give a call or email or whatever to who ever made it and ask them. Or go set traps and let critters decide

As Danny states it may be there may be some bait makers that may cut some corners and not add the proper preservatives if any at all in a bait that they figure will only be used one season and call it good. I would like to think most take precautions and do it right.

My five gallon bucket is like sourdough bread....been adding to what is left at end of season for years....never frozen from year to year......my bait consists of the stuff that wraps around the paddles on the mixer....I save and regrind and put in my bucket....can't be selling long strings of bait to my customers...lol....reground.....looks like baby food....I always tell everyone I mix it special to catch those old toothless ones.
