Went coyote calling yesterday and had a mated pair come in. The female came in first and my hunting buddy got a round into her before she took off into a thick tangle of brush. A second later the nice big male came in and we anchored him. While tracking the female we kicked her up and she ran into a frozen cat tail swamp. We decided to let her lay for a bit and came back after dark with my dog, a Deutsch-Drahthaar (aka German Wirehair Pointer). A wounded coyote, an amped up dog, flashlight and a .22 pistol in chest high cat tails so thick you could hardly move through them, never mind see a snapping coyote at your feet, is great recipe to get the adrenaline pumping! But it worked out and we're sure to have saved a few fawns this spring.
