Here in Maine they eat berries and buds out of the trees just like a patridge(grouse). [Linked Image]

We've had a noticeable decline in the birds in my area, Bruce. I'm not sure if it's the heavy snows from the past three or four winters or the cats. We've had a lot of both.

Frowned upon or illegal? I know it's illegal during the open season but I wasn't aware they did away with feeding after the close.

I’ve been feeding wild bird food and an extra helping of sunflower seeds. I’m getting them trained, l just rattle the bucket and they come running.

I'm thinking legal after all deer seasons are closed but so many different laws now it's hard to keep up with what is legal now.

I checked and it is legal Dec. 15th through June 1st. I know they frown on feeding deer and likely the same for turkey as the deer would use the same feed.

Don't forget grit, they need grit to grind up there food. You will see Turkeys along the road where they have sanded or the scrapers have ripped up the shoulders of the road.

That's where you're at, Bruce? I hunted down there years ago. The deer around me vanished after the first big snow hit. Headed to the yards. I don't know of a yard close to me.

I'm always amazed in the spring when the deer return after these ferocious winters. They always bounce back. I don't know how.

If the state of Maine eliminates the coyote killing programs all together here in northern Maine and shortens the coyote season as well as ending the coyote contests that I am reading about the deer herd in northern Maine will be in deep trouble without all those deer yards that have been cut down and will take decades to grow back.
