Always put a good pinch of salt in the coffee perk. Kills the bitterness. Cowboy coffee boiled over an open fire with the grounds right in the water is still the best.

Never could find the right amount of salt. Just found better coffee to start with.

That is how the coffee is made while in the field in the early 60s in the Army. They had a large pot of water, brought to a boil, dumped a #10 can off coffee into the boil water and added an egg to get the grounds to the bottom.

I tried salt in it once, couldn't spit it out fast enough. My wife uses lots of creamer in hers. She makes it strong enough to float a horse shoe in it though.

Aldi's German roast coffee has no hint of bitterness, $5 a bag so not as cheap as a big can for $5 but it is a nice treat.

If you grind it with a burr mill grinder the right size for your coffee maker etc. It won't be bitter to start with.

I like my strong, dark and black. If have heard that a small amount of vinegar will make coffee look clear as a bell and gives it a great taste. I have done this and it does make a great cup of coffee. It is clear but doesn't take the strong flavor away just adds to it IMO.
