Always put a good pinch of salt in the coffee perk. Kills the bitterness. Cowboy coffee boiled over an open fire with the grounds right in the water is still the best.

That is how the coffee is made while in the field in the early 60s in the Army. They had a large pot of water, brought to a boil, dumped a #10 can off coffee into the boil water and added an egg to get the grounds to the bottom. *Vote*

Aldi's German roast coffee has no hint of bitterness, $5 a bag so not as cheap as a big can for $5 but it is a nice treat.

I like my strong, dark and black. If have heard that a small amount of vinegar will make coffee look clear as a bell and gives it a great taste. I have done this and it does make a great cup of coffee. It is clear but doesn't take the strong flavor away just adds to it IMO.
