Lots of stolen traps have went the way of E-Bay I have lost thousands of dollars worth over 50 years ,Visiting my sinless neighbor a couple years ago and noticed two of my traps on his wall in garage , knew where he picked hem up and he said the farmer said he could take them . Farmer doesn't remember the incident.

What bothers/scares me about this thread and the particular trap mentioned is what happens if that trap with the tag still attached ends up in the wrong hands.

" Knock , knock... Sir , we just found your trap with your name attached and it had a XXXX animal in it that died a horrible death in excruciating pain while being filmed by a major news organization. You are now facing this charge , that charge and a bunch more charges "

That's why it's important to report all stolen traps. But it wouldn't take much for someone who has it out for you to get some trap tags made with your info on them and put them on some traps.

I would hope it would take more than a trap with my tag on it to convict me.

I was recently notified by a member a few weeks back regarding this trap. I wouldn't have known had it not have been brought to my attention. It appears to be one of the traps I used years back for fox trapping all over the U.S. I believe it is one that I was requested for as a donation for a fund raiser last year. I don't know who ended up with the trap or why it ended up on E bay. Only the final owner can answer that question.

It is situations like this that cause folks to not donate personal equipment in the future. I will not.

Almost wants me to have my traps tags with an expiration date.

' This trap tag only valid till the end of 2020 '

Then get new tags for the next year , PIA , but CYA.

Then we would have to have new tags made and replaced every year.

About 30 years ago a friend of mine had a 220 in a bucket set in a barn loft wich is legal in Missouri as long as its more than six feet above ground . About five years ago a gentleman showed up at his door mad as heck because they had just removed his trap from a fox hound pup where it had been caught in a fence crawl under wich is an illegal way to set a 220 in Missouri . All parties involved knew each other and when my buddy told the hound hunter where and when it had been stolen . The houndsman surmised on his own that the landowner that owned the barn and the adjoining fence the pup had been caught in had probably set the trap . Because that is somthing that old man would do . That situation could of been bad if the landowner hadnt been infamous for his sticky fingers and willingness to kill coyotes and stray dogs by any means available

After a local guy died, a friend of mine went to the auction of the dead guys stuff. He bought a bunch of traps and brought them by my place and threw them out in a pile and said I could sort out any that I wanted and he would sell them to me for the price he had paid. I looked at the pile from about 8 ft. away and said, "I see one that is already mine.". I dug through the pile and found 5 of mine total. I had taken lessons from Ray Milligan years earlier and had 4-coiled a bunch of Victor #3 coils like I learned in the class. I had not ever lost any of them while trapping. The dead guy's wife had worked same place as I did years earlier and I had a weenie roast at my place for my employees. She and her husband attended. They divorced a few years later. Those traps hung in a open shed where he could have seen them. He had to have stolen them from my shed but could have been anytime during a of period several years. I never did care for him as he didn't treat his wife that worked for me very well. She was a wonderful person and he cheated on her and seemed to never have a job very long. He got what he deserved and I got my traps back.

There are THOUSANDS of tagged traps out there in the possession of someone other than who’s name is on the tag.

Give wardens some credit to investigate a violation.

If someone is going to “frame” a trapper, what’s to stop them from getting hundreds of tags made with that trappers name and address and doing so???
