Is there anything that you fellas mix or add with your castor besides glycerin when you grind it for lure?

I prefer Glycol to Glycerin

I add a few drops of Sac oil

One batch I might add few drops of popple bud oil

Walleyed adds some Oil of Bergamot to small jar along with Castor and a couple drops of oil sac gland.

Killer smell as a change up for the cranky, difficult, nuisance beaver. laugh

I still don't understand why one would grind the castors when It's a lot easier to just scrape out the contents of fresh castor pods. Anyway that how the beaver uses It.

I prefer adding one or two things in a batch. That way I have change ups when I need em.

A little bit of sac oil is a good one.

Other proven attractors that I’ve used include cinnamon, vanilla, honey. Every lure I make has some sort of oil in it. Mineral, corn, sac———something but I like having an oil in it.

Oil of anise, sac oil, cinnamon, poplar bud oil, along with glycerin are some of the things I have added.

I will say that most of these additives have been for my own amusement . Plain old castor is what usually does the trick. Some of these additives I have used by themselves effectively, though.

I scrape the yellow out of the fresh castors, spread it out on a piece of window screen in the shade until it dries. I then mix it with enough glycerin to make a chunky peanut butter consistency.
If I want to add sack oil to a set, I will pull out my sack oil jar and add it to the set.
If I educate a beaver at a caster mound set with pure castor, this strategy affords me the opportunity to change up with pure sack oil without spooking it.

I cut up fine, castor, and reconstitute it in sac oil. And I'll add a few drops of anise oil to a four oz jar.

No two batches are the same.

This^^^^^^^

In nature a beaver doesn't mix sac oil with castor. castor Is territorial thing and oil Is a grooming substance.

When you have 60 or 80 pounds of dried castor, it's easier to grind. I don't buy green castors. I grind all but the saddles. Grinding the whole castor hasn't seemed to have had a negative affect on the effectiveness of Backbreaker.

But for the individual trapper that Is doing his own lure I can't see where drying and grinding castor pods is any benefit.

Because the pod besides the innards , is the most impregnated material one can get. What it adds is Volume as much as attraction. A Beaver lure without the pod ground is in no way a better lure.

To each their own.

Well the beaver doesn't deposit the pod when It marks It's territory.
Your theory may be correct If your completely drying the castor then the skin takes on the castor smell. But when the castor Is green and you scrape out all the contents the reaming skin has little or no odor retention.

When the beaver starts drying It's castor before secreting It then I'll do the same.

Its not A theory

Volume is a value to the user

If that volume doesn't detract from results

...thats a proven.

Also You have a Value ...intrinsically because of your method

And that Value is as real as anything!

But the fact Is the drier the castor the less weight you end up with. And that Is a FACT. So that kind of shoots down the volume Idea.
