I'm new to putting up fur. I fleshed some coon and a couple coyote and thought I did a good job but after drying overnight I saw several coon had a marbled appearance because I didn't get all the fat off. The coyote had a big patch above the tail that didn't dry much because it still had fat on it. Can they be salvaged or did I ruin them? Any advice is appreciated.
Still looking for a really great tagline...

Leave it for now and wipe off the oil as it sweats out. Try to do better next time. I think we all have been there. They will dry eventually.
Wish I had more time to trap....

^^^^ x 2 I call them a Swedish hoof knife but they sure work good for scrapping off those spots like you mentioned rubbing saw dust helps also that and hang raccoons head down to help keep excess grease off of the fur.

Wait till that fat deposit scabs over. Then take a sharp knife and just slice off that scab then you can re flesh that area. You probably don't have any of those fancy tools but a sharp knife will get you started. Then take a dull knife and scrap across the fat deposit. When your doing this the fat will come off like a liquid. Things should dry up In few days and you will be good to go.

Thanks to all for the help. I did some more scraping yesterday and had a lot of grease come off. They are looking better today. Still not sure on the coyote. Wish me luck.

One thing to remember once you get the hide off the carcass most hides are pretty forgiving when It comes to taint.

Bctomcat, I picked up one of these small pelt scrapers from Wiebe. The sharp side seems pretty dull, was thinking about giving it a pass on the belt sander. How sharp do you keep yours? I've never sharpened mine. It doesn't need to be very sharp, pressure does the job very well in my experience. They are not made for cutting, just scraping.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

One of those old red devil paint scrappers works good. You just need to round off the edges.
