Indeed and good for dad. I'm proud of him!
Personally I have a nice walking stick made from a very stout piece of maple. There aren't many critters, aside from the broken humans (with guns), that give me much rise for concern.
A quick blast across the bridge of the nose IS devastating. I may also at any time be carrying a bit more firepower.
As I see it there's one thing about being an apex predator I have to keep in mind, the position has to be HELD ON TO.
I see the urban coyote's, even though I live on the outskirts of a relatively small town. They're here for sure.
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT

had a neighbor attacked by dog 2 blocks over from out houses, seen video of some attacks dog mostly , always makes me think if you can't carry a gun you should at least carry a knife cutting the wind pipe and severing the arteries would be a lot faster than choking it out.
in my neighbors case the dog came from behind a house and attacked her coon hound that was on leash , she could not get the rottweiler off her dog and got bit a few times in her hands and wrists trying a cheap Mora or any 4-5 inch knife would have been an excellent tool to open up that dogs jaws by cutting it's wind pipe and arteries.
her dog died
Friday morning a Wisconsin Man and his dog were attacked in their own yard by a pit he was carrying and his dog looks like it will live but he waited probably too long as he was also injured in the attack before shooting the attacking dog.
you probably won't see much new reports of it , defending yourself from a pit with a handgun in your own yard doesn't fit the media agenda.
I suspect the reason the coyote story made news was he didn't use a gun or weapon , news directors are looking hard to sell the idea you don't need a gun. would this guy probably have fewer injuries if he had a gun, Yup , what if next time it is a 95 pound woman or elderly person walking with a grand child will they have the strength to choke out a coyote .pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! I am the great and powerful news Director !
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

How long before the heroic dad starts to get death threats from animal rights nutz ?
It's going to happen.......

I guess watching all those MMA Fights paid off- It sure seems like the encounters and frequency of these attacks are on the rise. AND.... It is only going to get worse... as trapping and hunting is banded in area throughout the country. I feel sorry for the average individual... but I don't feel sorry for those tree hugging solialists out hiking in California getting eaten by mountain lions. Garry-

Garry- I agree with that including the part about California.
