to put up a coyote? Just curious as to kind of an average for the time it takes to skin and flesh a coyote. I realize that it is a practiced skill, and having the right tools/equipment matters, but I am trying to figure if I should go ahead and give it a go, or just keep selling them in the round.

Well the first one will take about an hour at least lol.

Half an hour total, though some I get are a pita to flesh and they can take lo get to flesh than skin at times. If you skin em hot same you can knock your skinning time in half.

I hate skinning yotes. I'd rather skin four beaver than a yote. Maybe a skinning machine would help but I don't get enough of them worth skinning to make it worth the investment.

For me, personally, I don't find them too hard to skin or flesh. I don't usually skin and flesh in the same day so not really sure. I usually skin them then put them in the freezer and pull out a couple at a time to flesh and board. Takes me a half hour to skin. Maybe 20 to 40 minutes to flesh depending on the yote. Skinning while warm is definitely easier than if they are cold and stiff.

What hints/tips/tricks do you guys have that help you expedite or smooth out the process? I have skinned a few, (just enough to know I'm not very good at it, yet) and realize that having a proper setup for it is major help.

I was like you and sold green skinned or whole and decided this year since I was retired to learn to put fur up. I built a fur shed and designed it around ADC's skinning machine so I had enough height for it. Best money I ever spent, makes skinning way easier and way more fun. I am having a great time working on fur and hanging out in my new shed. I am way faster than when I started.

The hardest thing in the world to skin is a cold coyote unless you have a skinning machine. I found that out after skinning 3 cold ones. It took about a week for my sore shoulders to recover. I quit putting up coyotes; too much work. Compared to putting up a coyote, beaver are easy.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

Practice on non-preferred and non-prime coyotes, no harm, no foul. You'll be discouraged if you turn a $50+ yote into $10 or <. The main areas that tend to give people problems when you're learning are front legs and shoulder area. Search the achieve for the Beav's hammer method and other tips as mentioned, depending on the yote, not a lot of fleshing is required, skin warm and flesh cold.

Fresh skin is an easy skin. I mean shoot it and skin on the tailgate.

It takes me an hour and a half to skin, flesh, and put up a coyote.

Generally around 1 1/2 hours to skin, flesh ( includes turning ears and splitting tail) and board.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
