Just got a visit from the county. It seems one of my neighbors has an issue with a truck in need of a transmission sitting in my driveway. Strange, I haven't had an offer from a neighbor to put one in for me.


I will find out who and it's game on.

If it is the only vehicle visible from the road that isn't running, I agree. Several.... is another matter. I've been down that road with a neighbor before who was running a weekend body shop for ten years next to my house.

Talking about it is always better than the alternatives.

Warrior , is the vehicle currently registered , insured and have current license plates on it?

Where I am at , if you have all that , it could be sitting on blocks with no engine and the country can't touch you.

I've had issues myself before , just slapping some license plates on it keeps the problem at bay even if the plates don't belong on it , they don't check that closely usually.

This is not exactly the same issue, but a few years back I was up in Washington and listening to a local talk show and the issue was this old guy that lived out in the country his whole life, well, a bunch of land around him became developed and houses sprung up. He had always had junk and old vehicles stacked around his house but now the neighbors had turned him in and the county was fining him $300 a day for being a public nuisance. He refused to clean up, since he said he was there first and could do as he pleased. Now the county was foreclosing on him and was seizing his property.

What really got to me was all these callers to the talk show thought he was in the wrong and good on the county. To me the neighbors saw his place before they built and they built anyway. The heck with them!!!! Free country?

The trouble with "whoopins" is that sometime they go the other way. I can sound really brave behind a keyboard, but not so much, face-to-face.

I would read the law or regulation they quoted you and then adjust accordingly. I would tell them it does run. It is all perspective. A car without an engine will run - if one is put in. What does the law truly say? I bet they have some cars in their impound lot that have not been moved for a while. Again read the law and adjust accordingly. At least you know you have a concerned neighbor.

We don't live in a free country. We don't own the property either. If we did, we wouldn't need permits or pay taxes on it..... The neighbor is a busy body, but also doesn't want "his" property to lose value, so he reported it. That's why we have ordinances. If everyone put crap out, the neighborhood suffers. In this case, it shouldn't be a big deal. It sounds like it's not a rusty piece of junk, but the rules still apply. I had the same issue with a car that looked nice and wasn't an eyesore at all.. I got a note from the village saying I had 10 days to fix the problem.

No permits or ordinances where I live and just a small tax and no payments so I do own it.

I would definitely check the ordnance. The experience I've had is these guys lie a lot. Heard it from others too. They will say anything they can think of to get you to comply. I know people that have been harrassed with a vehicle out of sight , behind a fence , nobody can see it. They also lie about ' a neighbor complained ' not always true. They have known to use drones to find them behind fences. About the only safe spot is inside a garage with the door closed at all times.

we have a junk vehicles ordinance here , you can have a pile of rust non running car , the only thing is you have to keep paying the registration on it if it is stored outside.

if you want to park a truck in your drive that your getting too working on I would much rather have you as a neighbor than the guy who mows his lawn 3 times a week and gets bent out of shape about a leaf blowing from your yard to his.

if you are in the county and it isn't a public health hazard people should mind their own business.

if you find out which neighbor it is you need to set up a pig pen on his lot line and raise a run of hogs.

My neighbor had 4 forklifts, 2 Explorers, 2 Chevy Vans and a Jeep along with 4 trailers, 4 lawn mowers and countless washers and dryers. His lawn, His stuff, not my business. Would I be justified to call the County? Probably. However, that isn't going to happen unless he starts parking stuff in my yard. People need to worry bout themselves!

Dang, I thought every residence in Georgia must be required to have a junk car or two piled up somewhere on the property.

That seems pretty severe for a county ordinance. A city ordinance I could understand but seems pretty restrictive for out in the county.

Code enforcement has cried about these.
A kinda hobby of mine. People put these up on craigslist. I get them for free , usually just the carburetor gunked up , quick easy fix. I give them away to friends and have given a bunch to my neighbors , so I know they are not complaining. Maybe sell one or two , but not in it for the money , just keeps me busy. I got the code enforcement officer to buzz off when he claimed they were junk , told him they all run. He didn't believe me so I asked him to pick one out. He did , it started. Asked him to pick another one , it started. He grumbled off......lol
I keep the best of the crop for myself , I have 2 John Deeres and a Honda with the plastic deck. (not in picture)

I filed a GORA request (ga open records act) today. I will find out.

My guess is it's the "town mayor" that's catty corner to me. I'm in an incorporated one mile circumference map dot, one of only three cities in the two goat county. The "mayor" is one of the last of a family that was here when Noah floated by. He and another old crow make up the town government and they take turns being "mayor". We've already had issues over my chickens (he has chickens as well), my bees, his bamboo and the fact that I "ain't from around here".

Did he plant the bamboo ? If so , a big mistake. That stuff is a royal PIA to get rid of it. I hope none of it is anywhere near your property. If one of my neighbor planted any of that stuff near my property I would for sure call them out on it.
