The cost to ship packages through the post office goes up on Sunday, January, 26, 2020

Flat rate envelope $7.75

Flat rate padded envelope $8.40

Small flat rate box $8.30

Medium flat rate box $15.05

Large flat rate box $21.10

The rates go up every year about this time. UPS and Fedex rates went up just after Christmas. Happens every year.

Yay! Makes me wonder if it will ever reach the tipping point of bringing back the mom and pop local economy. I remember when the only things we shipped were letters using stamped envelopes.

Now we have chain stores that have flooded our society with garbage and outright junk that the big "successful" western businesses have ordered from China....to sell to us.

When we ordered from the Sears catalog, I'm pretty sure you still went to pick it up at the store. Now Amazon wants to deliver it to you with a drone.

The only thing that is consistent and reliable, is change.

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.

I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.

Best Regards,

JT

IMO they need to raise the rates percentage wise on junk mail higher than normal mail. It is just wasteful stuff that 95% gets thrown out after a quick glance.

Are First Class Package rates going up too?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

I don’t think so but I’m not 100% sure.

The announcements I read said the changes only applied to Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail. It said first class rates were not changing.

Best to ask your local post office to be sure.

It costs more to mail a package than the contents are worth, generally.

There are choices. I see no reason for the postal service to loose any more money than they are. I'll bet you don't find many postal retirees complaining about these increases or federal employees in general. They know where the butter on their bread comes from.

True........the postal service lost 23 billion $ last year.......making it the most profitable branch of government in the country! laugh That may or may not be an exaggeration.

Nah, just paying the pony's for the mail they delivered 25'years ago. Their productivity was so high they earned it.

Flat rate was a good deal at one time not anymore and the service is poor and they don’t own their mistakes adding to the poor service. So raise the price lose more business and gain nothing then pay to do the changes costing millions all for nothing.

In some cases, flat rate is still a good deal, when compared to other options.

I’m in the western US and UPS or Fedex to the Midwest or east coast is insane. Unless you are shipping 50-70 pounds and even then it isn’t cheap.

Those folks - companies and individuals- that live in the upper Midwest have it made with Speedee Delivery (or what ever the name is). But that isn’t an option for the rest of us.

Bottom line - if you are in the mail order business, you have to ship merchandise,

I paid $12 to mail a $4 item. But that was my fault.

Have any of you tried using any of the companies that get cut rates from the US Post Office, like Shopify? Postal rate increases have reduced the amount I ship from low 6 figures to under ten grand. If I had not diverged what I was doing, I would now be out of business thanks to rate hikes.

Out here the postal service was talking about stopping saturday deliveries -- but will deliver amazon packages on sundays or saturdays. Looks like they were low bidder - wonder how much this is going to cost us -- what did flat rate go up?
