Any advice would be appreciated, I’ve done a fair share of missing and having them pull out. Thoughts on how to catch the educated coyotes?

Without following you around,I don't know. Some thoughts are, pullouts are over reported by new trappers. Most of today's traps, regardless which one you choose, hold coyotes. Most pullouts are from deer or freeze/thaw conditions and too light of pan tension. If there are multiple pullouts, most likely there is some other problem.Toward the end of the season, there are smarter coyotes but smarts don't get you out of a trap.

Coyotes also change with tbe seasons. The trapper needs to as well.EarlyFall, late Fall,Winter,Late Winter/breeding season, etc. Most places, breeding is starting. Most coyotes are'nt as interested in baits and food lures as they were.Where I am,they even use some different different traveways now.

If you are using the same sets, attractants and locations as ealier, you probably need to change up,in a big way.If you find those trails and few deer are present, you can slay some.I have gotten doubles and triples with blind sets on a short section of trail, this time of year

If too many deer, you might try a couple sets, off the trail with only droppings as the attractant.Make sure you have coyotes on each location before setting.Like I said, there often some seasonal changes.I am just throwing out some ideas.I am not there.Sometimes it is time to move or even call it a day.I would check your pan tension,at least.Good luck.

I tend to catch more older adults in blind sets. These old dogs probably know more about dirt holes than most trappers.

Thanks fellas. I need to learn new sets I guess. The piece of advice I was replaying in my head was from the management advantage videos when the man said : find one set and master it. I’m no master at it and maybe I’m so comfortable with them cuz it’s really the only set I use. Nobody ever taught me or showed me how to make new sets so photos or descriptions of sets other than a dirt hole would be a big help. Thanks for the replies and please keep em comin. Season ain’t over yet!! 10 coyotes 5 reds and a pile of bobcat so far. ( should be twice that atleast)

You have actually done very well and will continue to learn as we all do.You should go over to the talk and check the thread on The Coyote's Nose. There is an article in there that talks about not only how they smell but how they react to increased activity in their area.Excellent material.

Taximan, archery etc. gave good advice.
If you are basing your success on Youtube over night experts you are looking in the wrong place.

After you have trapped a spot for a while/ STOP or MOVE.
You don't see super star Waddell hanging out very long in any one place do you? He moves, traps, moves, traps, moves and on and on. No one is going to look like a super duper star trapping the same ground for a long period of time. It is not cat trapping or fisher trapping. Canines do get wised up or what ever you want to call it.

Following that thread of the super catch will teach youngsters and beginners something if they think about what they read.

I’d love to get new ground to set steel but unfortunately it’s hard enough finding someone in Connecticut that owns more than 10 acres. Then u gotta pray that they hate coyotes. Vast majority of people round here won’t allow trapping period. So I do run the same spots most years but with that being said most of my catches have come from places I’ve trapped for a year or 2 atleast. I swear we get these packs of em and they just won’t go near a dirt hole. Trail cam photos of 3 black coyotes that frequent one spot that want nothing to do with my sets. I really wanna park one of them so I think I’m gunna set a few compass sets and try a blind set or 2 after tonight’s rain.

Any tips on trap placement for these styles of sets? Don’t need anymore misses or pull outs.

I can't help with pull out since I'm not there with you.

Highbawl10,
Here's a set I use (in video) when they seem to want a looksee or avoid working my sets. Sometimes I start with this set.
Ed & Richard can show you faster than I can explain.
Watch video, Coyote remake about 7:20-7:45 minutes...
