Myself,I dont care to do the small ones. They are kind of fragile.
The best ones to skin and flesh are the lg and xl sizes. They usually have the best fur too.
The XX and XXX can be pretty grissely at times and are often scarred a bit.
Good job on your first one Taddeo.

If that is your first one that`s not bad.Put some of that caster lure up on the bank in front of that 330.

This thin layer of ice melted off the ponds before I left there today.

I got five castor mounds made, three with conibears and two footholds. The water should stay open for about four days.

We'll see what happens..

Nice day today for a little swim in the beaver ponds setting traps...wife and kid think I'm nuts

It makes me happy..

Nothing again this morning, maybe day three will be lucky. Regardless I'm giving this spot until the weekend and then moving my traps to another location.

I'm hopefully going to put at least another beaver on the boards here before the close of the season.

Ticks are out NOW.....Man I hate those blasted things..... Now I have the paranoid "itch"..... grin

I did find something pretty interesting this morning, even in the dark, fresh eggs shells. I don't think anyone was making omelet's, at least not humans, where this is located.

There's a farm across the road from where I'm trapping with plenty of ducks, geese, and chickens...notes being made for the fall seasons even as this one is just wrapping up.

I'm betting they have troubles with critters.....I'll be talking to them shortly... shocked

Well, these beavers are smarter than I am. I actually killed two on the strip (or whatever they are) ponds. One I have on a board and the other I found one pond over (less than 20 yards) from a baited conibear set that was tripped one morning. He took a shot to the head but didn't get caught and expired under the ice and snow. So it wasn't a miss but it wasn't a catch either. 330's are absolutely deadly. I hate it when I loose a critter and then find it later and it just goes to waste. It's almost like the roadkill thing. It was too far gone to mess with.

So I'm headed out to check a couple of other spots, definitely going get the squealer going while I'm scouting, and getting ready to move these traps to another location.

I have a few weeks left and I want to catch at least one that isn't just a baby.....pictures to follow later tonight.....

I gotta get out of the house and into the fresh air...

I'm thinking I might just find some adult beaver yet this year... grin These beavers are eating a ton of roots. I'll be making some baited sets here for sure.

Pretty long dam with plenty of feeding, fresh AND old, sign all over the place.

There are certainly beavers here.

These ones built dams..A lodge tucked neatly in the woody brush.

Setting traps at the new location tomorrow

I pulled the others today and my back said go home dummy. Yep the tailing piles will whoop your butt! Tomorrow I'll have my chest waders on and probably roast but the water is still really cold.

It's going to thaw again and I'll throw some more mud and castor mounds out in a few days perhaps.

Dancing down a beaver slide into a deep run with a set 330, GOOD thing I had chest waders on.

Imagine that, beaver slides are slippery especially when they thaw out. Hips and back now hurt from that stunt.

Hahahaha....but the trap is in place now. Hopefully I'll be carrying one out tomorrow.

I made 6 new sets today so........We'll see what happens.

This is a crappy picture I took in the dark this morning with my junk phone, AKA personal brainwashing propaganda terminal.

It's not 80lbs but it's also not just a little baby either. I checked out this spot, the last picture I posted above, there is a deep run winding it's way up the middle of that channel.

I found where a clump of tree roots created like a bottom edge set. The run went right up tight to the tree's and turned up stream, I put a 330 down in that run yesterday afternoon.

Trap caught him right behind the head. The set worked just like I envisioned it should and this one will be a little more work I think.

Didn't have time to remake the set this morning but I will.

RENEWABLE RESOURCE .......I'm making notes

March 7th, It's going to like 60 degree's tomorrow and the amount of cool critter sign I'm seeing is highly encouraging.

There's all kinds of fur running around here man. I'm seeing, and smelling, yote, fox, coon, rat, mink, beaver, possum, skunk, even a nice amount of deer.

Pulled my 330's today. I MIGHT put in some footholds tomorrow at castor mounds, we'll see.

I have to get some drowning wire or cable. I don't think I want to carry 10 ft sections of rebar to this location. It's not right off the road somewhere.

It's pretty much time to start getting the fly fishing gear all set and whip up some new flies....all the while taking notes like this right here.

I'm making pocket sets this year, and buying coon stretchers......and making mink boards

Local beavers might find some surprises come Dec 2020 too..... cool

Dude that's awesome! I wish I had the time to go after that many.....

I have to get up before 04:00 as it is now, AND I'm slow on putting them up.....guess there's only one way to get better....

Very nice catch. We seem to have really good looking beaver here.
