When I started waterfowl hunting over 50 years ago (Michigan) Black Ducks were quite common. They're still around now, but the vast majority are watered down. I did notice, when bear trapping Maine, that Blacks where common, but that was 17-20 years ago.

l Not a new thing. Mallards have been cross breading with Black Ducks for the last 30 years. What I hate seeing is the cross breading of the Miscovey with the Mallards. pick65 Muscovy X Mallard cross isn't fertile so the result is a dead end, I'm sure they still try though.

Seen a few black ducks here, never shot one yet.Really enjoy all waterfowl hunting, this year we had the wetness fall on record.Between the wet conditions work being crazy I only got 4 times last fall, still fun but not enough times out in the field. If I remember right I never fired a shot at a duck this year, just geese honkers and a few snows and blue's.Hope next fall is dryer and I have a little more time to get out a few more times, still have 9 1/2 boxes left out of my case. Would love to get into some blue and snow geese.Im hoping to maybe in kansas next year.

That would be my luck. Actually shot one like that in Arkansas and the dang thing landed smack dab on a bean stalk and ruined any thought of it going to a taxidermist. Still after a Black (full blooded Black.) Alot of black ducks around here.

It's called a "Mottled" duck, google it and you will see your duck. Shot a lot of them over the years. Color of the body is between a hen mallard and black duck.

Lots of black ducks in my neck of the woods too, be nice to find a little variety but at least it seems like the past couple years I'm the only one out near town duck hunting now. Most of what I got this year was wood ducks and black ducks. See a few mallards but they are certainly outnumbered by the black ducks by me. Most of the mallards around here live in and around cities and towns.
