Made mine out of a 7' fence post. The legs are 3' long with the rest as the cross piece. Notched the ends to slide the 330 springs in. Added a platform and another piece of scrap wood to the bottom for strength. It sits a little low with a 330 in it but it works. If I make another one it'll be like 330-Trapper's in the first pic. Probably a bit lighter than mine and wouldn't be so likely to get waterlogged with the foam in it.

This was the most productive way I've used it. This spot had lots of sign but the water was very shallow for a long ways out. I wasn't checking every day so didn't want to leave a dead beaver exposed and didn't want to try a 50' drowner either. Where the reed edge came away from the bank the water was deeper so I just shoved it in there and got 5 or 6 in that spot.

Mine look similar but use a 1 x 6 crossbrace on the bottom front and build a castor mound in the front on the shelf. I bring a small bucket of muck to top off the stack of weeds piled up.
Normally push into floating cattails as a blocker near deep runs. Very high catch rate. I used some seasoned cedar fence posts so they aren't too heavy. Can usually carry 5 in my canoe for specific spots where downers or shoreline where 330"s aren't feasible.

I've never tried them on beaver- but thinking about a couple locations where this would be advantageous.

that's when I put a blob of mud on the board and add BTO or a castor base lure.

you can also cable them to a large branch overhead so the current keeps the opening downstream, when ya aint pushed it into cover,

Any incidental otter catches with the floats?

I think the idea behind the peeled popple sticks is that it does help with the scent being dispersed. I haven't tried these floats but I also peel sticks, it helps with the scent of the wood. Nice pictures guys good winter projects!!
