1955 actually had a lot of horrible law enforcement and terrible laws.
Other than racial laws which is a gimmie, why don't you list =just how bad it was? Enlighten me and I don't mean to be snide, I mean educate me and us.
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

Enlighten me and I don't mean to be snide, I mean educate me and us. you are correct I was largely indicating horrible racial laws and corrupt cops pinning crimes people could not have even committed them railroading convictions. the number of cases that were railroaded even as late as the 1980s and early 90s in the south is very disturbing. no for most here or our parents times were quite good in 55. the abuses in law enforcement were obviously not evenly distributed in all of the country.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

A country where federal , state , and local governments all UNDERSTAND their roles in maintaining optimum individual liberty . Well said. Unfortunately, we lost that some time ago. Government is now mostly about control.

Governments are ALWAYS about control, that's the point. Some are way worse than others. Personally I have no desire to see anything like McCarthyism floating back to the top of the tank. (way too late for that hope I'm sure) Freedom is a cornerstone in the foundation of the hodge podge building we call America. Still the ideals are by no means fully enacted and freedom is disappearing in the name of "safety and security". Emotional maturity and a strong set of personal values, dare I ask for BRAVERY since everything is so "scary", and how about some tolerance and willingness to live and let live. I remember when we had 3 TV channels in black and white with rabbit ears antenna, a party line telephone for the neighborhood, and lived on a dirt road. I remember spending most of my time outside along with all of the other neighborhood kids. I remember when my parents knew and interacted with my friends parents and we all helped each other as actual neighbors building neighborhoods for real. I remember the massive crowd of people that gathered at our house and cried with us when my mother passed away and all of the mothers that stepped up the best they could, as time and life went on to try and fill that gap for us. People actually seemed to genuinely care about each other. At which point I have to invoke (for better or worse) Ben Franklin: Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) I want to see the entire planet built on LIBERTY.
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT

Dispite all the wrong in America. Still by far the best country in the world. But we must never take it for granted. We must always defend our freedom from foreign and domestic intruders. We must always be willing to take a stand if we don't believe in something. Stay united as one free nation under GOD. And always remember the people are the government. Those we elect can be removed with a vote. Come November excercise your right that many died for. VOTE!!!!!!!! X2

People knew their place back then they embraced the differences back then and thought things out even if they did not agree with it. Now it’s I don’t like it so it must be banned without any understanding of the outcome and if you don’t think just like I do your racist is a default reply.
