I am going to get a new rifle, I have been reading about and looking at the 204. Anyone have any experience with this round? If I didnt get the 204 I would go with a 223. I would like it to be fur friendly.

For me the bullet has more to do with fur friendly than caliber. Friend of mine has one and he was just telling me this week that hes finding out it's a little temperamental when it comes to loads and accuracy. I think some calibers are just designed to sell more guns.

Got to find the right bullet for it, mine is deadly accurate but go to a different brand/bullet and it shoots far to the left vs what I normally shoot out of it.

Tiny bullet so it's squirrely on windy days.

Won it in a gun raffle so can't complain, lol.

I have one, I've killed a dozen or so coyotes with it, (haven't had it long) I am shooting Hornady 32gr ammo. Makes a exit hole about the size of a .50 cent piece. My son has one and he has killed around 300 coyotes with his. He is shooting 32gr Nosler BT. loaded with Varget powder. Makes an exit hole about the size of a dime. most seem to exit if shot in the side. front end shots no exit

The tactical.20 is similar to r.204, it can shoot 1-200fps faster.
I use imi brass and 4198h powder, 35 gr Berger, about 4100 ft ps.
The old 33 vmax I was shooting at 4375 fps, but it's a poor bullet for coyote.
The .20 is very accurate, I have 2 targets, three shots grouped under a quarter inch.
It shoots real flat, 1.5" high at 100 yds, dead on or inch low at 300yds, after 350 it drops off

.204 is the fastest factory manufactured round out there (or at least was) at 4400 FPS. I shoot a 32 gr Hornday V-max out of my Ruger M77 with a bull barrel. I can hit a groundhog in the ear at 170 yards. Super fast and super accurate in a good rifle. Fur friendly? Well, if you are shooting something big enough that you won't have an exit hole then I would say sure. That little 32 gr bullet will take a groundhogs head off, literally. I do not know if they make FMJ ammo for it and I know the powder is proprietary so if you reload, you may have a hard time finding a recipe that will give you those velocities.

I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

Shooting a 40 grain bullet out of it does better than my 22-250 as far as cheating the wind.
Wind drift charts back up what I am seeing ,,, bullet construction is key fur friendly,, accurate as anything,,,,, under 300 is dead,,, past that there are good days and bad days lol.
Fast becoming the gun I grab first.

I got big holes with nosler 40 gr, and Berger 40 gr
At 4375 sometimes the v max exploded on the fur going in, making a 1-2" hole, no more than 2" deep, no good for coyote

I think it is a neat caliber to own. Fun to shoot and fast. Im still experimenting with hand loads. Ruger m77, blued with walnut stock. Looks and feels like a deer rifle. So far only tried Vmax. Definitely gotta be better out there. Once i free up more brass im going to try match kings. Most 5 shot groups are still under 1.5" but think should be able to do better.

Thanks for the help, I am going to get one and give it a try. Alot of the guy on the predator hu ti g form say it the way to go for fur. Guess it's better then the 22-250 and it got to do better then 243. I thought about a 17 hornet but dont thi k it has the range I would like.

I didn't read the other replies but unless you are reloading there is only one factory round with Berger bullets. All the ballistic tip stuff splashes and leaves huge holes in the fur where you hit them. My .22-250 with 45gr hp ammo is more fur friendly.

I never tried (or heard of) these rounds before I sold my .204, but I'm told they have the bullets in them that most guys say make your .204 fur friendly. If they are accurate in your rifle you may not have to reload. I did love seeing the bullets hit through the scope and it was VERY accurate, but I don't reload.

I found any bullet hitting close to the edge makes a bad hole

I switched from the 22-250 to 204 and have gone back to the 250. In my experience the 250 has been much more fur friendly. Also, even with a well placed shot I’ve watched a number of coyotes run some distance after being hit with the 204. I’ve had good luck with the 40gr Fiocchi ammo, just not with coyotes. I did buy a bunch of those berger bullets awhile ago though, so if I ever get through my factory ammo I will start reloading them and give it another chance.

It’s a great shooting little bullet, but it lost it’s place as my coyote caliber

I have them in my cart at midway. Found them last night. Thanks
I think it will be fun to shoot. I dont call alot, probably 10 to 20 times a year. I have a 243 now and I haven't kept I coyote I have shot to skin ever with it. I also think the 204 will be fun for my 12 year old daughter to shoot with me. When I get it if I have a problem with it not doing well on the fur part I will go buy a 223.
