I have a rather old Samsung smart phone so the question is for android based phones. The Verizon Navigator worked great for me until they recently "made it better" with Google. Google takes 10 minutes to find anything on my phone if it finds it at all so Google Maps is out as is now Vz Nav. So what app works for you??

Sounds like you're phone or signal is lacking. I've never had an issue with Google maps

If it’s 3G they will start to mess with that to phase it out you will need to go to 4G now.

I took the factory map app off my iPhone and replaced it with Google maps. It’s a much better program.

Eh...wot?

Law Dog, you may have hit on the problem. Google does work for me in the few places I have good 4G service, but they are few and far between.

I won't use them. Good Garmin gps is only $120 at Walmart and you don't have to worry about losing a cell signal or having wifi. Just my 2 cents.

These days they have offlife modes where you can download maps in advance of you know you're getting into areas with bad receptions.

I guess I wasn't clear that I was talking about road navigation. Map and compass plus OnX Hunt is what I use in the woods, map and compass for navigation and OnX for land boundaries.

I’m a Forester and I use OnX hunt because of the tax map info. It works great even in no cell service areas in the Adirondack Wilderness . Just download the map area before you lose service and then it works off the internal GPS in your phone. Map and compass also. I also carry a phone battery booster in case my phone goes dead.

I feel safe saying that almost everybody who has an android phone uses Google Maps for navigation.

Now what can we about? grin

Road warrior for routes that are optimized for less miles and fuel. (Limited on number of points you can have)

Map marker for unlimited points. I use this for my trash company routes. Can't optimize for for fuel. But it's easy enough to just expand and pan around for best route. Multiple other functions for notes, sharing, etc... I can literally text a guy his route the morning of or night before and share info in real time on the route.

Use both of these with Google maps
