After almost 32 years of being alive, I just found out about the Intercoastal Waterway. I had never even heard of it before. Kind of shocking seeing as how its only an engineering marvel... In my defense the furthest east I have lived is Flasher, ND.

Don't feel bad. It is actually the intrAcoastal Waterway. Many people make that same mistake. It is inland of the actual coastline for part of its length and doesn't really connect two coastlines.

I don't know how much its used anymore, container ships have gotten bigger and there are no current U-boats lurking off the east and gulf coasts trying to sink merchant ships. Maybe more a thing for current local/regional shipping.

Nope... I was mostly at the Las Pulgas (The Fleas) area of Pendleton.

I would love to take a boat up the intracoastal waterway. I bet you could make better time on it than I-95 during rush hour traffic. To wild Idaho, maybe you should check out the East coast @ least once in your lifetime. I actually like the East coast. I know that this will draw the haters out of the wood work. LOL.
