Sometimes I read about people concerned with coyotes refusing their sets. Could it be that maybe they are using too much lure/bait? That thought just crossed my mind.

There has been a few times this season when I figured I needed to relure as it was a month since original set was made. And has I was doing had a coyote in a set. Even after rain and snow. What I do is put bait and lure in sheep's wool and use a rod with a washer welded on end and pull the ball of wool out and put new one inn. That way I know it's not overlured. If it's even needed. Alot of time it still seems to have the same odor even after rains and sitting for a while.

Here's my thoughts on it, I use to think you could over bait or lure a set but have since changed my thoughts on it. I think if coyotes really like what you use they will either want to eat or roll on it and more only increases their desire. BUT if your using something that is marginal and only peeks their curiosity (particular with unnatural smells) then that curiosity might be satisfied from a distance. Ever see a gut pile or whole carcass scare a critter away. There's always exceptions and situations that may change things put that's my thoughts so far in this experience. I prefer a lure or bait that coyotes will try to dig to get (they want it that bad) and it seems the more I use the harder they try to get it. I know some guys that are better trappers than me that claim different but so far in my playing around this is my conclusion. Set shy coyotes may be a little different situation and things that cause a strong rolling response might cause a problem if used too much of but it wont be that they didn't work the set.
