I have found that any bullet with VARMINT on the box is not a fur friendly bullet.

Next bullets I'm going to try in my. 204 are doing to be BlitzKings and the all copper Hammer Hunters from Hammer bullets. 31gr or 48gr in the Hammers. Not a plinking round at all, but for high dollar coyotes it's a business decision if they perform as advertised. I've had problems with splashes from the Vmax bullets, so I'm going away from those. Not a Berger fan, at all, after having multiple bullet failures on deer with them in a variety of different caliber and gun combos. I know a lot of guys love them, just not me.

If I wanted a fur rifle, I would get a 17 Rem. I don't know that anyone is making them now. The 17 fireball is the next step down, and they are being made. I have a 17 Rem so I can't say I go looking for them.

Mine is a Browning Xbolt. With the Hornady factory ammo I can cut 3 hole at 100 yards. My son has a Ruger M77, with the Nosler 32gr and Varget powder he can shoot a 5 shot enlarged hole at 100. With his load they are very fur friendly and he has only lost 2 out of 300 coyotes

I bought a box of factory loaded hornaday superformance in 40gr. They have done very well for me out of my TC compass. Both in the DRT and fur damage. The few that have passed through left very small holes. I have had no blow ups on quartering shots either.

The fella I have reloading for me now will work up a load that better suits my gun this spring.

Does the compass have a 1 12 twist?

I believe it is a 1/10, but I'll check and let ya know for sure.

The reason I say this is the reason I am having my reloader make up another load for it. It shoots well enough with the factory stuff but not as well as the 39 blitzkings did.

Mark, I know CZ still makes a .17 Rem, I also know of at least a couple places that make .17 Rem in the AR platform.

I was thinking about bolt guns, but now that you mention it I have seen 17 Rem AR's advertised. I find it funny that everyone is making all the lesser 17 calibers and not the 17 Rem. I have shot a lot of coyotes with mine and it is a good fur gun.

I've got the T/C Encore rifle that had interchangeable barrels, with the .204 barrel it's a serious tack driver.A shame they quit making it.

A gun place could make one probably if you need one
