No. I've had steel in the ground every year since 1979. Haven't been motivated enough to make any sets this year.

I think it may have come full circle for me. The first year I trapped by myself (1947/48) I was only 6 years old. This was the first solo adventure… I was excited, but I was also scared. Some of the same feelings came back to me this year 2019/20. Health issues headed the list... and sorry to say... they were a major part of my demise as a trapper.

You reach an age where trapping, hunting and sex are as much fun to think about as to actually participate in.

I'm more excited each year mainly because I learn more with each passing season. I no a lot of ppl are more worried about the money they spent versus the pay out at the end. For me it's not a money thing I loose my butt trapping every year but knowing that I'm completely capable of living off the land and getting better in each passing year at all the trades of the past makes it completely worth it to me. There is just something about trapping and everything outdoors I can't get enough of. Its really nice to have all these skills in your arsenal, especially with the way the world is today, when s*** hits the fan one day and got all these city ppl that think meat comes from a store that's no longer there and can't fend for themselves Ile be setting fat and sassy living off the land thanks to the wealth of knowledge that's been passed to us starting back from the mountain men days. There ain't a day goes by that I don't at least look at a trapping magazine planning for the next day I set traps or the next season. To those that worry more about it for the money as a hobby trapper just remember money is not everything, take new ppl out pass it on make it a family adventure. Can't take money with you when you go.but you can make lots of memory take with you and pass a lot on. Keep the chain strong!

You can put a gun to my head, tell me your phone number, and I won't be able to recite it 1 minute later, but I can describe to you a trap line of 40 traps, including every detail of every set from 2018.
The only way that I can fall asleep sometimes is to mentally visualize each site in the order that they were set. If that fails, I visualize each set in the reverse order of how I check them. That usually does the trick pretty quick.
So yes, I'd say that I am still excited about trapping.

Even after 50 years on the line...I think about trapping each and everyday. I get excited whether I'm working on equipment, a package of supplies in the mail, scouting or actually on the line.

No money maker for me, but as a hobby it's still cheaper than an ex-wife or drug habit.

I still love trapping, its the skinning and put up that I've grown tired of.

55th season this year for me. Still love it and look forward to it every day!! But I'm about as slow as molasses in January anymore.

At 75 I get more excited about trapping because there is no reason to get excited about women any more if you know what I mean.

It’s more about goals today same fun different approach to it, not numbers just simple goals.

Probably more after nearly 30 years than the first year. More because over time I have become better at trapping, catching and also what to do with the harvest and do it better. Also each year I try a few new things on a limited basis and that creates interest as well. I also know at age 72 that the seasons ahead of me are fewer than they were 40 years ago and I want to savor the time in the field even more.

I like really low fur prices, it really thins out the competition. I hope they stay low forever!

I think about it every day, and wish I were out there doing it, but also now know that common sense says if I want to walking at all next year... this is the year I end it.

This is my fourth year trapping. I got a late start as I am 36. I am still excited about every check. I know that there is a little chance that I will have anything, but there is still that chance. That is what keeps me going. I keep learning a little bit each year. Mainly trying for the yotes. Got one the first year but have been skunked since. Fox, bobcats, coons, grinners and stinkers but the yotes are eluding me. Each check there is that chance tho.
