Well, the dryer bit the dust after 10 years of use. At exactly 11:35 PM last night , I pulled the wash out of the dryer. 3/4 dry. So, with the dryer empty, I turned the dryer back on to see if it was heating up. 5 SECONDS after it started up, A LOUD BANG AND RUMBLE SOUND banged from inside the dryer. Sounded like a concrete block was tumbling inside. Turned it off , and the smell of something burning inside when I opened the dryer door. Turned it on again. Loud screeching sound and the drum would hardly turn. Then, the bottom of the front of the dryer panel busted loose from the metal screws holding it in place.. Drum fell off. Motor shot. Took the front off today to see how bad the damage was. Belts not broke, but don't think it is worth fixing !!!

Got a price on a Speed Queen electric dryer. How are they for drying clothes and holding up over the long haul ?

Not sure about a dryer but I bought a used Speed Queen washer several years ago and it was excellent. My wife loved it until it started having problems a couple weeks ago. It was older when we got it and I paid $150 for it so I figure I got my moneys worth out of it.

We love our Speed Queen washing machine. When the dryer goes it’ll be replaced with a speed queen too.

If the old one lasted 10 years, that is what I would be looking for.

we are hard on washers and driers 5 people lots of laundry 2+ loads every day more on weekends , had a speed queen now several years I went with the commercial same one as has the coin box but it was less money without the coin box

that was 7 years ago

it does a good job drying cloths

my washers have also gone out at very inconvenient times night before leaving for deer camp with a the load of cloths I was packing in it don't recall the other time but I think also leaving on a trip the next day and having to go the coin laundry to finish. those were a Frigidaire and a whirlpool front loader

the Washer is also now a Speed Queen commercial top load had it 5 years so far still running. I went back to top load after 2 front loaders main bearings went out 6 years and 7 years were their life spans. the repair man said for as much laundry as you do go commercial he had told me to get the whirlpool after the Frigidaire went out said best of the not over 1K front loaders with the least electronics to go out. then when that one had the bearing go and then it shook apart the frame welds.

I guess the previous dryer a Frigidaire purchased in 2004 that made it to 2013 ended in a dryer fire not so much inconvenient date just a Wednesday morning making breakfast then dealing with a fire , I got the fire out but then puked my guts out outside temp about 10 degrees and me laid out on the ground dry heaving and wife insisted I go to the hospital because of the smoke inhalation don't recall the date just that it was a Wednesday. going to the hospital was inconvenient I guess. a fire was inconvenient.
