Anyone ever tried it?
I never have yet but I hear its pretty good,Its supposed to be a healthier meat to eat than beef.

Has a sweater flavor then beef and a softer texture. Jerky is good tho

I liked it. Nice marbling to the meat and sweeter taste to it. Won't have a problem sliding up to the table if that's on the menu.

I use it in my dirtholes for coyote and fox, and think I'll continue to use it for bait only

Worked in a horse slaughter house for 13 years ..enjoyed the meat alot ..enjoyed the marbled meat much better than the quarter horse lean

I've heard most US horses get some sort of vaccine that makes their meat not safe to eat? I'd love to find a horse to butcher, just not sure any random horse is okay to eat.

Back about 25 years ago a guy from a small town near me had a horse hanging from a maple tree in his yard and was happily butchering it when the county animal authority pulled up because of complaints to their office. If I remember right he was charged with animal abuse but was eventually acquitted as it was determined he had the right to humanely kill and eat his own horse.

I have eaten in lots of cheap restaurants in Mexico, Central and South America so I assume I've eaten horse meat.

You can buy it lots of places here. I've eaten it a half dozen times and like it, but I don't go out of my way to buy it.

Butchers here cannot sell both horse and other meats from the same stand. Guys selling horse meat are always separate and sell only horse.

A buddy of mine was eating some one day and asked if I wanted some. I said sure and we sat down and ate it. It was pretty good and I asked him where in the world he got the horse meat. He then told me his neighbor had the horse and it died. I asked what it died from and he didn’t know. Im still alive so I guess there’s that.

Its a cultural thing. Americans have never gotten into it because horses are sort of like big dogs for many people, especially now, just pets. And that as a society, and this would extend to post-WWII Europe, we generally have never been hungry in an sustained way. I guarantee you, if the - every happened, there would be a quick appreciation of eating horse meat!!

Non pc it was post ww2 that cattlemen got it banned for human consumption in the us when the government started sending war horses to slaughter. Prior to that was sold and available in the us

I've had it. It's good. I think If someone told you it was beef, you might think it was different but wouldn't call them a liar. Most of the stuff I had the guy raised for that purpose. So I guess I couldn't say how an old nag tastes
