Has anyone ever put up 100 possums for a single season?
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Think some feller wrote a book about a million possums one time, Big John or something like that was his name, goofy yankee with thin hair. lol That would be Joe House (might be Big Possum on here) . That is about the funniest book I have ever read. It was called Possum Trapping By The Millions.

I did 38 one year, that was like early 90s and was getting $2 a piece on the finished which was about $1.50 more than I was getting for finished rats. 38 finished possum. Learned you have to be real delicate with the fleshing, more finesse and gentle pushing to get the fat layer off. We were getting an awful lot of them in coyote and coon sets that year so just started finishing them out. The market liked the long haired silver colors then vs the black colors, but we put all of them up. Had some real jumbos and some dinks. They stink too. Haven't put one up since either. I had a landowner let me put carcasses in his ravine so the hawks and other creatures would eat in winter. He said the pile of stinking possums never got touched and that was last year he let me dispose there too. I will never forget the look on Roger's face when I brought those in the door at Turkey Creek Furs. I had some finished coon, coyotes, and mink I let him go through first. Then I said hey wait I have some other fur too. I had them all nose down in paper grocery sacks and carried I dont know like 5 or 6 bags in and set up up on the table. He just looked at and laughed. Called me the possum king for years after that but I never brought him any more. He did give me like a $2 average one them. Some more, some less. Had one cinnoman colored one he gave me a little more for it. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

That is about the funniest book I have ever read. It was called Possum Trapping By The Millions. You bought me that book many moons ago at rondy in Marshfield I believe. We laughed about it for the rest of the rondy and the whole way home. Great book. Used to put up possums. 13 caught in a day is my record. Hit it twice. 43 in 10 checks this season has me cranking the pan tension up.

September 2015 I sold over 300 possum for a 6.40 average. I sent them late because I put up 400 of them after finishing 1750 coon. It was possum gold at NAFA that year. LLL

No way will I ever put up those stinky things again. I would much sooner deal with skunks cause their smell doesn't sicken me as much! Like Jab stated, they are the last thing in the carcass pile that gets eaten. Usually only hawks and eagles will eat them.
