So I trapped a small beaver and it has several really knotted spots in the fur. I have taken my fur comb to it, but to no avail. It is only pulling fur out. Anyone had this problem, I thought about mixing some conditioner and water and spraying it down?

Leave them in,let the grader make the call if it is dmg or not.If you pull them out it will be guaranteed dmg grade.

You can try some of the stuff they sell for hair. Just don't force it out or you'll loose fur.

My son In law had some beaver he trapped out of the Tanana. They had some glacial silt tangles and they were impossible to get out. I thought I could take a hammer and beat on them to soften them up. And that didn't even work.

Actually I think it comes from cottonwood sap. Lot of it here in the glacial rivers where there is cottonwood. I just comb them out. That spot in the hide is toast if there are enough of them.

Ha ha, Gary you were around steel too long, just like me! A guy that worked for me used to call me hammerstein! Claimed I was the only one he had ever known that could fix anything with three tools, a screwdriver, pliers and......a hammer! lol
