I always like it when there isn't much water. Gives them less room to maneuver. The 'help' is probably worth what you paid for it ))

When you punch a hole through the ice here water shoots up out of it and can flood the immediate area. The ice is sitting directly on the water...it is supported by the water. Same thing that creates overflow when it snows. The load increases and the weight of the ice displaces more water...up through every crack.

Yeah but air still gets trapped under the ice in either bubbles or pockets. That video I found was in Ancorage Alaska.Thats also how the ice fisherman I showed earlier could swim long distances under the ice by breathing that trapped air.

Neat little video but that isn't what I'm talking about. In that video yo have open water upstream carrying air with it. What you're seeing there is water about 2 inches deep on gravel with a quarter inch of ice.
I'm talking about ICE. 2-6 feet thick

I am sure it IS Anchorage. It looks like McHugh Creek just south of town.

Bring some of your ice fishing friends out here . I want to see them swim under the ice.

Air bubbles and air pockets under the ice is how these people can swim long distances under the ice.

What a hoot ! Funny video- I'm glad that spoof was laughed about in the comments below...so that kids see it is not for them to try. Yes folks do take a dip in winter ice water but in completely different ways.

Even belugas and orcas know better not to get caught in closing leads with too long a distance to open water ....

Speaking of overflow, I think of all those neat shots trappers like JR and AKnative have posted in their travels.

I'll take a compliment wherever I can get it. Think I should add another snare or two or go with it the way it is? This is a first for me.

If you use the green pole set up,(wire your snares to a green bait pole only) dont forget to run your safety wire from bottom to top of the pole before you wire on the snares.

Getting ready to strap on my snowshoes and make the mile long slog. Chainsaw is thawed and I'm ready to go. I'll update.
