Hello all, I was wondering how long it would take to thaw out a completely frozen wolverine, 39.5 pounder. Picked it up in a wolf snare yesterday. Third one for the season for me. Most of the wolverine I have gotten were not frozen solid like the one I picked up yesterday, still waiting for it to thaw to start skinning. Thanks!

K, thanks! I was getting worried as I haven’t need to wait more then a day before. Had 20 below and 40 below weather the past week. Had wolves around it but they never eat it, was happy. Need to bring up some sleepy creek 4.5s or mb 750s. Anyone ever tried the ts 85s for wolves before? Looking at getting half a dozen or so wolf traps for next year. Got about 7 wolf traps and a bunch of snares. Will need to wait until tomorrow to skin the wolverine. Blizzard out today so wasn’t able to head out today

Hang it in Helenas house and don’t listen to any complaints of smell. Feet thaw first and skin them as soon as you can. As it thaws pull on it to better expose the belly to warm air. Put the knife in the oldests boys hand to learn.

Will skin tomorrow either I. The morning or after work. Ordered four Bridger #5s to try out. Will see about getting a dozen next year.

Ts 85 modified aren't a bad wolf trap at all. .I have a few set currently. I'd say they are better than an mb 750. A great wolfer in Montana uses them exclusively, as well as some of the Idaho trappers. I do like the dogless design and big flat pan.
The Bridger 5 AK specials are a decent wolf trap for the money.
I held a small.male in one with a high foot catch. I like the latch and big pan area. Hope you catch with them.

Every time I'm setting a 5 for wolves I wish it was a 9.
A 5 is poor for wolverine in my experience.

Also it takes 3 days to thaw a wolverine for me but its fairly cool in there.

Wrap the torso with an ace bandage, this will compress the fur and make it thaw quicker.

That's what I do too with most larger frozen critters.

Awesome! Will need to head to the store after to pick up ace bandages if they have any, need to check on it and may need to add the bandages on if still stiff, I was looking at the ts 85s for their jaw spread. May order some this spring or summer and add on some coil springs and weld bars on the jaw. May need to wait another day as it still was frozen this morning, got it in my house and the temperature is at 70. Making more wolf snares and will dye or boil them tomorrow and set later on in the week
