walleyed- I'm not whining that you all in upstate NY may some interesting and niche alternative markets to sell your fur at a higher price than many locations, I'm merely arguing the point that perhaps the Herkimer sale is not what the average local-to-regional sale is going to bring this season. We need more data points to determine if the general fur market is now on an upswing, the light at the end of the tunnel may still be a freight train. As for South Dakotans needing some alternative marketing for fur critters, I'll let the others decide. I already have one value-added venture by cleaning up skulls and selling them. It adds money to the critters. We don't have any grays here so can't do your fancy skinning on them but the next reddie I catch, I skin it for the taxi market and go from there. I'd like to see the end product (the taxi mount or whatever else they made from the hide) of one your grays if you have any pixs. Or is that giving way walleyed's "secret sauce"...? Maybe include it when you write your trapping book. Like I said, I'd buy more than one copy
"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground". Genesis 1:26

Maybe include it when you write your trapping book. Like I said, I'd buy more than one copy I also sell all the undamaged skulls from all species along their baculum, glands, and carcass meat. From beaver I sell the skulls, oil sack glands, castor, tails, and carcass meat if I can find a market for it. I'm hearing that at least one other Central New York In-country Auction (Pompey, N.Y.) had excellent prices this season so The Herkimer auction might not be unique. I don't know the final destination for my grey fox or any other fur but I suspect they are dressed (tanned) and sold on the internet or in Adirondack tourist, gift, & curio shops. I post Information every time I sell wild fur no matter what or where the outlet and leave in up to the "experts" on trapperman.com to decide what that information means. Carry on. w

"excellent prices" If NAFA comes back, you could be the new minister of propaganda. Yeah, And until then, you can carry on in your self appointed role as the Forum W.I.C. ("Whiner in Chief") You've been doing an excellent job at it. w

believe a lot that go to the Pocono's,finger lakes and such lookin to get away from the city may be more likely to purchase.what people say,and what they really do is often very different.
think of the castor market and what the slump has done to it.same thing with tanned fur i believe.lots out there but they still pay extra for the best.eh walleyed.

[quote=Fisher Man]Mr.Walleyed, 2 questions:
Do you leave the feet and claws on the fisher?
Do you sell your skulls green?
Don’t now how you sell fisher or Marten skulls in NY. The entire Marten carcass must be submitted to the DEC , and the lower jaw for fisher. So for fisher you could only sell fisher skulls minus lower jaw.
