Hi, fellow trappers!
My name is Kristin, but you can call me Kris. I'm an almost 37-year-old librarian in Person County, North Carolina and this is my first season trapping. I have my trapping license and have been very fortunate to find several local trapping mentors in the area who have been teaching me a lot! Thanks to one of them, I trapped 2 beaver in late January, my first fur catch of the season, and a raccoon last week. I skinned the beavers on my own and had help from another mentor with fleshing and boarding the beaver pelts. I shipped them off on Monday to have them professionally tanned since they are my first furs. The raccoon has been frozen until I can get together with the mentor again to learn how to flesh and put up a raccoon. I'm headed down to Raleigh this weekend to see about getting a chest freezer to store my furs. If I'm able to catch more fur before the regular trapping season ends Feb. 29 or the beaver trapping season ends March 31, I'm hoping to sell some of my furs to Groenewold or FHA when they come to my area about early April.
And from that chilly night in January when I saw my first beaver floating in a pond, I've been hooked on trapping! Absolutely love it! I always enjoyed reading about people surviving in the wilderness and loved books like The Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain when I was a kid, but I never thought about actually diving into hunting and trapping until 2018. Joined a North Carolina hunting forum online and started learning and haven't looked back once! I also enjoy squirrel hunting very much and some fishing. And some other hobbies, like reading, writing, hiking, knitting, etc. But I have always loved the outdoors since I was a kid and hunting and trapping have really helped me get back outside in nature and doing things I love and they have kept me going through some tough times as well.
Anyway, it's lovely to be here. :-) The only other trapping forums I'm on are the North Carolina Trappers' Association (NCTA) forum and a trapping section on the NC hunting forum I'm on. This is my first time branching out to meet trappers from outside North Carolina. Nice to meet you all! :-)

Congratulations on your first catch! Finding that first animal in your trap is like the person looking for gold who finds their first gold nugget. You're hooked! Real nice to see ladies get involved in trapping. Welcome!

Welcome aboard Kris.
Be sure to chime in and join the shenanigans.
Also, your input would be appreciated on our "what are you reading", "what to read next", book suggestion threads.

Welcome Kris...
As a kid I also thought to escape to a hollowed tree and have a pet named Baron would be a blast...So in what capacity are you a librarian?? School??
