It is usually not a good idea to clean old coins, but if they are going to the bank won't hurt. Have you tried vinegar and baking soda? make it thin and let them soak over night.

I tried one mixture suggested on the internet, vinegar & salt. Did nothing. I'll try the vinegar and baking soda overnight. See if that does anything.

Have you tried bringing them to the bank as is? You may be cleaning a car on it's way to the crusher, so to speak.

If theres no silver coins just run them through one of the banks self serve coin counters...
