Well after patiently waiting 12 days finally connected on my Ohio Otter. Nice big male. I have caught 4 before but has been 3 years since I connected. Used to be only about 200 a year harvested but they did just open the season state wide so I am sure the catch is higher. Caught in Licking County which is in the zone where I can only tag one. Season is over for me now.

Yeah this is my fifth “keeper” and I have had to let 3 go caught in early season pocket sets is ver the last 8 years or so. Much tougher releasing an otter in knee deep water than a bobcat on dry land.

OMG the hair is gonna singe on the truck tailgate in those freezing conditions. You know the otter have to go straight from the trap to a silk sack grin For real though great catch thanks for sharing

Nice. I’ve yet to see one in Ohio, though I’m nowhere near any water.

So got the otter tagged, fleshed and boarded tonight. Some say these male otters are tough to flesh but I would rather do these any day over a 50lb gristly beaver.

Good job of fleshing and put up. With regards to the put up I would suggest, for presentation, that on future otter you trim the belly side leg tags off and pin the entire leg to the tail side of the board.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
