Right on! I use dukes for fox trapping and have never had anything break on any of them, and I catch coyotes and wolves in them too! I use the same chain that comes with them and even the wolves don’t break them. I’m a Duke fan!

They must be old stock traps because the D ring issue has been fixed.
I caught 20 some coyotes In those faluty traps and never had any issues with the D ring failing. And I never saw the need to change them out and Bill even sent me the replacement clevises.
Duke Co rocks.

Duke Co rocks. Who are you trying to convince? The OP already lost one. He knows they fail. I like duke traps. Almost all of mine are dukes.

It's a known problem. I keep hearing they fixed them but have yet to see any change. I replaced my d rings with homemade ones. When I pulled the old ones off I didn't use any tools I just stood in the chain. I would call it good customer service if they wouldn't sell the faulty traps. As soon as the issue was brought to them, they made a big effort to contact buyers and offered to send replacements free of charge to anyone who wants them. There are first generation traps of numerous brands, including but not limited to MTP and CDR... they had issues, the companies fixed them and modified the traps to solve the problems, same as Duke did. There are times where the problems aren't apparent until they have been marketed, no different that automotive companies issuing recalls when an issue has been discovered. It's what the company does after the issue is discovered that determines if they have good customer service.

Other than the d rings I love the trap. Very heavy duty.

I had a couple Vics fall apart out of the box. My wifes 4x4 had a recall. All Vics and 4x4s are junk.
See how silly some sound? An experienced trapper can catch with any modern model.

I'm convinced the only Duke leghold worth having out of the box, with minimum work is....
The 1 1/2 coil.

The 1 1/2 coil. Have you tried the Duke 550's yet? I boiled and waxed mine and started catching coyotes.

Actually I can't think of a Duke trap you couldn't take out of the box, adjust the pan/trigger if needed and go catch whatever animals the trap is designed to catch.

I don't use Duke traps, except for the Duke 550 which I feel is a quality trap and caught coyotes for me this year without any issues. I have emailed Duke twice and both times had a very quick response from Bill himself. Duke will continue to get my business for the 550, while MB/Bridger and Belisle and get my business for most of my other traps.
