You need to put up a few more. Don't judge how hard it is by only putting up 1. After you do about 50 it will go much better.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

You think beaver is hard try a nice big male otter. I got some otter this year. Puts perspective on it. At least the hide is pretty tough though.

I know if I was going to be catching many beaver I would make a much wider fleshing board than the one used for coon, otter, and coyote. Keeping the hide on the board gives me fits. Try using a rag or paper towel in between your hip and the hide to hold it tight against the beam. Use sharp side of fleshing knife to basically shave from back of ears and work your way right to the tail, just doing a 6” strip right down the centre of the back , you are just doing the back at this point and the tail. Then use the dull side and work your way the hole way around pushing the fat out to the edge. Just keep rotating the pelt. Keep using your rag. Careful around front legs and nipples. Once you are used to this , 10 minutes on a 3xl Works for me anyway

Your not placing the hide on the beam In the correct manner. Place the hide so the end of the beam Is right In the middle of the hide. Then turn the hide as you flesh. That way you have the same amount of hide hanging over the edges. And the hide will stay on the beam as you flesh.

I stopped trapping coon while they still had fat on them this year. The very worst is a late season coon that has been holed up and dehydrated. It is like scraping bubble gum. Like said though the first couple thousand are the worst unless you still have a thousand more to do. LLL

I hear you there wetdog. I have put up only 30 or so beaver in the last 2+ years and they are really, really tough. I could catch more than I do, but I don't really want to. I don't mind putting up coon or otter though. Coon are not too bad, at least the 16 I have done.

I CASE SKIN MINE AND FLESH LIKE A COON THEN SPLIT THEM WHEN IM DONE . THATS JUST ME. I saw that for the first time recently on a video of a NH trapper/skinner. I'm going to try that on my next beaver.

Same as yumm, case skin and start on belly. Easy stuff off first, then sharp side of knife to do the back and tail.

I tip my hat to all who put up numbers of beaver. It took 45 minutes to skin one, and 1 hour and 15 minutes to flesh it. And I'm still not fully satisfied with my fleshing. Granted it was my first one, but I think it might be my last. Lol So to all you beaver trappers, you have my utmost respect I think I'll just keep playing in the dirt. I spent over two and a half hours skinning, fleshing, and boarding my first.I'm still not fast, but I'm down to about 45 minutes now and only catch a few a year to scratch the itch. --None this year, still have some put up and in the freezer from last year.
