Excellent fleshing job. Sorry but put up needs considerable improvement IMO. First it looks like the board is to wide thus length for size grade is not attained. The butt should be tack off straight across the board and the front legs should trimmed shorter and tack straight across from each other. Better yet, sew them closed for better appearance. Sorry I do not have a picture of a boarded otter but they should be put up just like a mink.

I allways pin my otter legs on the back of the board. The tail side

I also like the hardware cloth on the tail. Saves some pins and I think they dry nicer

Instead of hardware cloth I use a piece of thin cardboard (plain, no printing on it, cut from cereal boxes use the plain side against the tail or else it may say CoCo Puffs on the leather). Widen the tail with my thumbs, then lay the cardboard on it, pin with 2 pins. The cardboard will absorb all the grease from the tail and any that drains down the pelt leaving a nice fluffy tail. Try it on one tail and you will see what I mean. It is how we did 25,000 ranch mink each year. Bigger cardboard pieces work well on otter.

Question for Boco. To what do you attribute the freckles on one of those otter pelts in our pic?
