For plinking I buy the Hornady 62 grain FMJ's in bulk and load them with CCI 400 primers over a healthy dose of CFE223. I don't hunt song dogs for fur so have no problem with blowing bigger holes in the pelt but my hunting load is a 62 Grain TSX over the same powder or a 70 Grain Nosler spite point over a good dose of Leverevolution. All the same primers. I do use 5.56 Nato pressures and not the 223 Rem data. All of those are loaded to max magazine length 2.260"

Hornady 55gr Spire point with Cannelure over 25.1gr H4895 I buy the bullets by the 1000 from midway if I catch a sale I can do under 9 cents a bullet BC is 0.235 this is a target the holes marked 4 are from 400 yards witht he above load, the holes marked 1,2,3 are Federal XM193 fmj from the respective distance admittedly those were shot in a hurry 1-2 minutes max, I was running ammo tests the second day of a 2 day rifle clinic I qualified 3 times the first day so they let me play the second day while others were working on their AQT . the instructor manning the pits was marking targets between each distance. 10 rounds 400 yards cover them with a bill. fired in less than 5 minutes all fired from my 20 inch barrel 223Wyld AR with 3-9x50 Vortex I have shot a buck with this round , don't expect an exit hole but internal damage was good, it ran 30 yards and expired , raccoon stop very quick , have not shot a coyote with it but from what I see on raccoon it would be a sew-able exit hole .

I do use 5.56 Nato pressures How do you determine pressure. Are you just looking for flattened primers or brass? or can you actually determine pressure?

Some manuals give you the data for both 5.56 and ,223 I am a little above the 5.56 data with my loads with only very slight pressure signs but that where the accuracy sits with my rifle, so I roll with it.

For coyotes I use the 52 grain Sierra HPBT with 27.5 grains of Varget. Seems to be a very fur friendly bullet and very accurate. that's a lot of varget to push in

for plinking and coyote hunting - what would be the advantage to reloading when factory ammo is so cheap and plenty accurate and fur friendly for coyotes out to max .223 range?
Maybe just for fun??? I haven't ever reloaded ammo myself. premium ammo at 23 cents a round in cost and a bit of my time. running one ammo for target and game I know where it hits much better and at range. my son was looking at ordering 223 ammo he looked all over 31-35 cents a round was all fmj couldn't get into a hunting bullet for less than 50 cents a round with most of the better stuff 70 cents to a dollar a round. he tried , but came back to me finding that he could not beat what I had made for price and quality. updated price 25 cents a round if I had to repurchase components today , but if I watch sales like in the past might get back down to 23 cents.

I paid about $.35 a round for Hornady 55gr Steel Match and a little less for UltraMax 52gr. HP ammo a year or maybe 2 ago. They both were ~1" @100 or better over the hood of the truck. https://lowestammo.com/rifle-ammo/2...ain-hollow-point-20-rounds/?asaid=as0001 - I'd try these for $.17/round I bet they would kill coyotes and punch holes in paper.

ADC that's what I shoot out of my AR. I hate chasing brass, especially with snow on the ground or in CRP. You loose as much brass as you find. When I find them for under $200 a 1000 shipped I get a case. I got 16 lbs of powder and I still shot that Tula HP ammo.

I run 40 or 60 grain ballistic tips with benchmark powder.on my night vision gun I run the 40 grainers as shots are usually a hundred or under and the 60 grainers for daytime calling.

Well I don't save any money because I hand load my ammo. I just shoot more. I like to tinker and experiment to find that really good load for every rifle. Right now just for the fun of it I am working on 3 very different kind of rounds to get the old 30-06 to be a true all around rifle. Not because I have to, just because I can. Its fun. I also like to shoot oddball stuff and sometimes ammo for those is either made out of milled unobtanium or really expensive. I don't have safe queens.

My 28", 1:7 twist barreled AR is partial to Sierra MK over a max charge of 8208 XBR. For plinking I usually use Winchester 748 and whatever 55 grain bullet is cheapest. The 55 gr/W748 load is the only one I shoot out of my 16" barreled AR.
