She would have been 109 today. I learned a lot from her. She was born and raised in South Dakota to Swedish parents, her mother an immigrant.

After a two year degree from Dakota Wesylan she got a teaching contract at the same country school she had attended. Grades 1-8. $100 per school year and the duties included keeping the school clean, starting the fire every morning and helping the kids put their horses away in the stable.

She visited mount Rushmore (1929) when there was just a tiny trail to the monument and they were still working on the first president (George Washington).

Mom used to always say: "If you can't say something nice....don't say anything at all" Ah, those midwesterners!

Happy Birthday Mom!

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

What she was to the future of this country, during her lifetime, was equally important as what she was to you. Happy Bday to her.

Happy Birthday to your Mother.
Sounds a lot like my Grandmother.
I will always wish I would have taken the time ….
