Country was ruined when they tried to add beat to get the girls to dance...

There is still some good country if you search it out.

The only country I listen to is from the 80s and 90s. I'm not much for modern country where songs start with the words: "Hey girl...wassup. You lookin' fine..."

With that said, however, there is a small group of modern country artists who are bringing country back to country roots:

Tyler Childers
Colter Wall
Jamey Johnson
Chris Stapleton
Ryan Bingham

I liked country in the 80s. Was turned onto it by then girlfriend, a sweet Wisconsin farmgirl. Can't stand it now, at least what's played on the radio. My favorite is "Your the reason God made Oklahoma". Spent a little time near Lawton OK in 90s, and enjoyed it, probably because of that song. Good people and good food.

They ( music critics) say John Denver is responsible for the charge in country music.

IMO if you add Glenn Campbell you have the ones who popularized and added "pop" to country music that we have and is popular today.

I’m into bluegrass for the stories country used to tell

The Steeldrivers
The white buffalo - the whistler I’ll post it below. Dark dark song. Amazing.
Billy Strings
etc.

I also listen to a lot of classic folk. But it’s Quebec French stuff so I won’t bother y’all with it haha.
