I had a small New Holland L250 Skidsteer and gave it to my son for his property. Thinking of picking up another skidsteer or compact tractor.
What’s would you rather have?- I predominately utilize the bucket - for chores and snow removal etc. but I could see where PTO driven attachments would be nice for food plots.

I reckon it depends on your anticipated use. I love the skidsteer for working around tight spaces, especially bucket or fork work. I need a regular tractor more than the skidsteer, can't do both, so that's where it is for me.

I have no need for a compact tractor but am considering one between 50-80 hp as I already have a 35hp and a pair of 95 hp tractors. I really hate unhooking implements in hay season so will likely get a 4th tractor before a skid steer. If I did not have two loaders on my bigger tractors I would tend to be swayed heavier towards a skid steer.

A tractor is not a skidsteer. Alot of people get a tractor with a bucket and think they have a bob cat and are let down.

I have the tractor and attachments. I excavated for a barn and hand to rent a skid steer b/c its just not the same.

If you do get a tractor you for sure what hydro static foot pedal controls for forward and reverse.

The one thing that i didn't think of that no one told me about having a tractor with belly mower, front loader, and 3 point w/ pto...

It doesn't matter what you go to do you tractor is setup for something else. So you have all the time at the beginning switching from one to the other.

Say hooking on my rototiller is pretty involved b/c I bought one that is too big for my tractor. Once its on it works good. But then when I go out to mow that week in spring the tiller is on. Or vice versa.

There is something to be said for having a dedicated mower that you just go out and start and then your mowing in the first 2 minutes...

Hopefully that helps you out.

Just depends on your usage. Both have their strong points. While you can get most PTO driven implements for a skid steer, the price difference between them and tractor implements is huge, especially when you consider you can buy good used tractor implements at any local auction for a fraction of the new price. Used skid steer implements aren't as easy to come by, and are considerably more expensive.
So if there are a lot of different implements you think you'd use, I'd lean towards tractor. If mostly loader work, and maybe one PTO implement, skid steer would probably be the better choice.

If your planning on using the bucket or forks you need a skidsteer. A utility tractor cant compete with the lifting power of a skidsteer. Not to mention the bucket speed for lifting and general maneuvering.

My vote would be a rubber track skidsteer . I always hated skidsteers until i ren$ed a svl 75 kubota . I decided to buy a svl 95 . It is the most hauled piece of equipment i got . It has become an integral part of everything i do . From building fence , to putting up hay ,packing my tools around in the woods , packing out logs when its too wet to run the skidder .loading logs on the truck , pulling cedar sprouts out by the roots with my tree puller

get both, other wise you will never know how useless a 4wd tractor is for playing around and how useless a skidstreer is on hillside in the woods.

This is good advice.

Unless you need to brush hog a lot I think a skid steer will work circles around the small tractors.
