How are you guys setting these bridger special #5 coil springs? And please don’t tell me you’re setting them by hand lol cause that ain’t working for me!

I’m barely able to get them set in my house while balancing and holding onto a chair or the door knob and I need extra leverage to push my feet down on them to get them set.

This will only be a circus out in the snow.

Is there a setting tool I need to buy for these traps?

Thanks!

I can just barely get them set sitting in my kayak by putting the trap on my thigh, pressing the levers down with my forearms, and then grabbing the jaw and holding it open to set the dog. It's super dangerous though, it's almost impossible and I know if I keep it up sooner rather than later it's going to snap on my hand and I'll be stuck. I have no problems standing on them and setting them, but that's not always possible in sand or mud or snow, so it's not very helpful.I need some setters too.

I just looked -- it looks like mtp has the ones for the mb750s -- i don't know if they will work on the bridgers - but that is what i patterned mine after. by the way i also use a snap link to hold them together and to my belt loop when not in use.

I made these as an experiment...they did work well but failed structurally.
They are only 1/4" rod so if you made them from thicker stock they'd be fine.
I had a video of myself setting a Bridger #5 with them but can't find it.

Just happy to be here.

Lol that’s crazy you can set them in a kayak!! And yes one day you probably will have one pinch your finger or hand and you’ll be screwed lol.

How did you make the setters? Is there a YouTube video or something to watch? I didn’t even know if they made setters for them or not. Just surprised how tough they are to set under perfect circumstances.

Get ahold of Dave Shelton on here.

I'm sure he makes setters for them.

I have 4 different pairs for several different sizes and kinds of traps.

They work!!

WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO TRAP!

The ones in the youtube video are the Dave Shelton setters (that's not my video, it's the guy from Southern Snares in the USA).
The pair I made I just bent out of 1/4" rod with my Princess Auto rod bending fixture.. like said in the post above, I only made them as an experiment and they worked well but failed after a few tries because of poor design/planning/materials.

I do believe a decent pair would be fairly simple to make, the hardest part is measuring for and planning out all of the bends.

Just happy to be here.

Mine aren't one handed but they work well for me. I like the one picture with the bobbers on the lanyard as they can be a challenge to find sometimes.

What kind of girly trappers are they turning out
up there in Manly Manitoba these days.

Any real he-man USA trapper worth his salt can set those
traps by hand without help from a knee, the ground,
and any sort of sissy setting tool.

No wonder the United States beat your arses in "War of 1812". laugh

I have set them over my knee but it is tough. Set them on the ground and use a knee to keep them open, nothing to it.

I must be a sissy too, I have some for my MB 750's and was real glad when I got an ungloved left hand in one this year. I was able to get the trap off pretty fast while working on my vocabulary!

The sissy way. Start the levers down with your hands while kneeling down. Put your knee on the free jaw to help as they start to open. Now they are open and your knee has the free jaw pinned down allowing you to work the dog. Easy peezy
